Arrests in Mexico City Point to Widening Drug War
MEXICO CITY — Mexican federal police said on Thursday they arrested 10 alleged members of a hit squad from a drug cartel who had come to the crowded capital city to start a turf war with a rival cartel.
The arrests were the latest sign that violence from Mexico’s war against cocaine cartels has spread to every corner of the country, even to the outskirts of Mexico City, the world’s second largest city.
“It is clear that these two gangs, the two cartels, are already on the outskirts of Mexico City,” acting federal police commissioner Rodrigo Esparza said, according to the Associated Press.
